Iman Mohammad, a six-year-old boy who was allegedly abducted from his family home in Sunamganj on Friday, was released yesterday after his family paid 1 lakh 50 thousand taka in ransom.

 According to the boy’s father, Abul Oyes Azad, a group of four to five armed men entered their home on 21 April, assaulted him and took away his son. The family alleged that Juber Ahmed Apu, General Secretary of the Sunamganj District Swechchhasebak League, was behind the abduction. Azad alleged that Juber Ahmed Apu initially demanded 10 lakh taka for the child’s release. After negotiation, 1 lakh 50 thousand taka was paid to men allegedly connected to Apu, and the child was returned safely on the morning of 22 April. Azad further stated that Juber Ahmed Apu held previous enmity against him and the abduction was carried out in this regard.

Juber Ahmed Apu did not comment on the said allegations. (Collected )
